Water Quality
The dashboard displays lead and copper test results from the water systems serving schools and school districts. At the school level, the dashboard shows the water system name, lead levels in parts per billion (ppb), and copper levels in parts per billion (ppb) from recent test results. At the district level, the dashboard shows average lead and copper levels across all water systems serving schools in the district. Lead and copper in drinking water can harm children's health and development, especially for young children.
The EPA sets action levels at 15 ppb for lead and 1.3 ppm (1,300 ppb) for copper. When these action levels are exceeded in more than 10% of customer taps sampled, public water systems are required by federal regulation to take several mandatory actions: implement additional corrosion control measures, inform the public about steps they should take to protect their health, and may be required to replace lead service lines under their control.
